An Israeli man severely wounded in a Palestinian suicide bombing seven years ago succumbed to his injuries on Saturday and died.
Fifty-seven-year-old Shimon Shiran suffered massive head injuries and brain damage in the 2002 Passover suicide bombing at the Matza restaurant in Haifa. His 17-year-old daughter was killed and his wife seriously wounded in the attack.
Shiran spent the past seven years at a rehabilitation center, but his condition continued to deteriorate.
His death brings to 16 the number of people killed in that attack.
Shiran's surviving daughter said that her father's long suffering and eventual death should reinforce the fact that injuries suffered in terrorist attacks are often just as or more traumatic than fatalities.
Often high numbers of injuries in terrorist attacks are dismissed, and most people, especially the media, focus solely on the number of people killed.
