Israel suspected of sinking Iranian arms ship off Sudan coast

Monday, April 27, 2009 |  Israel Today Staff

An Iranian ship carrying arms destined for the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip was sunk off the coast of Sudan last week, presumably by US or Israeli forces, according to Egyptian newspaper El-Aosboa.

Unnamed Sudanese sources told the newspaper that an unidentified warship opened fire on the Iranian freighter as it approached port. The Sudanese sources said they are certain American or Israeli forces were behind the attack, though Washington and Jerusalem have remained silent on the incident.

Israel has all but admitted to carrying out an air strike on a convoy carrying arms through Sudan to the Gaza Strip in January.
