Israelis warned of Internet terrorism

The Prime Minister’s Office on Tuesday issued a statement warning Israelis to beware of terrorist activity on popular online social networking sites such as Facebook.

According to the statement, Muslim terrorist organizations are using sites like Facebook to glean information from Israelis and possibly to lure Israelis into traps.

Israelis were cautioned to be especially wary of online job offers or any other offers of monetary compensation in return for contact information or personal meetings.

Terrorists are believed to be most interested in getting information from Israeli army veterans or members of elite IDF units, as they generally possess classified details regarding military installations and other targets in Israel.

A number of Israelis have found themselves in court in recent years for inadvertently divulging such information online.
