Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Tuesday told the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that Israel needs to put greater effort into improving its image abroad.
Lieberman said that previous failed strategies and a lack of resources had resulted in much of the Western world being fed an image of Israel that is only very loosely based on reality.
Ido Aharoni, head of the Foreign Ministry's Branding Israel Project, backed up Lieberman, noting:
“We carried out a series of studies in Europe and the US and tried to understand how Israel was branded in the eyes of the world. We discovered that the Arabs, our competitors, have succeeded in...creating an identity for us which has a very tenuous link to reality.”
That most of the liberal media has been only too willing to accept the Arab version of events at face value has also not helped.
