Firm Israeli demands never last, cautions minister

Israeli Infrastructure Minister Uzi Landau on Tuesday warned those happy that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed only to a demilitarized Palestinian state that firm Israeli demands have a tendency to fade, and ultimately the Arabs get things the way they want them.

Speaking at an event in Jerusalem, Landau said that by this time next year everyone in the international community will be completely ignoring the stipulation that a future Palestinian state be demilitarized, and Netanyahu may find himself under heavy pressure to do the same.

All the world will remember, Landau said, is "the fact that the head of the National Camp in Israel supports the formation of a Palestinian state."

Indeed, that phenomenon appears to be already taking place, as both US President Barack Obama and the European Union have expressed satisfaction with Netanyahu's support for a Palestinian state, while almost completely ignoring his conditions for providing that support.
