Netanyahu attacked by Israeli militants

Friday, February 11, 2005 |

Right-wing Israeli militants tried to attack Finance Minister and former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but he escaped injury. Netanyahu was attending a wedding, when he was harassed by protesters aligned with the outlawed Kach movement, which opposes any concessions to the Palestinians. They were angry that Netanyahu, a member of the ruling Likud party, has not opposed the government's plan to withdraw from the Gaza Strip and dismantle 21 settlements there. The protesters threw a plate at Netanyahu and slashed the tires of his car. The militants believe Netanyahu sold out his principles to keep his seat in the Cabinet.
