Sunday, August 02, 2009 |  Israel Today Staff

An unidentified gunman burst into a gay community center for youth in Tel Aviv on Saturday night and opened fire, killing two people and wounding many more. Two of the wounded were listed in critical condition.

The assailant managed to flee the scene before police arrived. A manhunt has been launched to bring him to justice.

At this time it remains unclear if the shooting was a terrorist attack or a hate crime against homosexuals.

At Sunday's cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack and insisted Israelis live up to their image of tolerance.
