Israeli soldiers shot and wounded an Egyptian Border Police officer along the Sinai border late Saturday night after the Egyptian made threatening gestures.
Israeli media reported that the soldiers spotted the armed man moving along the border and ordered him to identify himself. Instead of complying, the Egyptian officer cocked his weapon at the Israelis, who then opened fire.
A joint investigation revealed that the Egyptian officer had not crossed the border, but neither did he properly identify himself.
Israeli forces have increased their vigilance along the Israel-Egypt border after Al Qaeda and other Muslim terror groups began moving into the Sinai Peninsula following Israel's 2005 withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
