Israeli Druze firebomb local police station

Thursday, September 03, 2009 |  Israel Today Staff

A group of Israeli Druze youth firebombed a police station in a small Druze town atop Mount Carmel on Tuesday. The attack came in response to the issuing of arrest warrants for two local Druze who had constructed houses in a nearby nature reserve, despite warnings not to.

Many observers saw the attack as further evidence of the radicalization of young Israeli Arabs and Druze over the past few years, leading to a significant increase in internal nationalistic and race-based attacks.

Right-wing Israeli lawmaker Aryeh Eldad lashed out at the left-leaning mainstream Israeli media for failing to adequately cover the story.

In remarks to Israel National News, Eldad noted that had a group of Israeli settlers burned down a police station in response to arrest warrants related to illegal building it would have been front page news for a number of days.
