Gaza pullout assured a parliamentary majority

Wednesday, February 16, 2005 |

The Knesset is set to approve Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s plan to withdraw from the Gaza Strip. About 70 parliamentarians are expected to vote in favor of the plan, with 40 opposed, including more than a dozen from Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's Likud Party. The vote will clear the way for the pullout to begin in July. The settlers are promising resistance, but Sharon is resolute. “I'm determined to carry out the decision of the government and the Knesset,” he said.
