Sharon not intimidated by death threats

Wednesday, February 16, 2005 |
The planned Gaza pullout is charging the atmosphere. Graffiti has appeared in Israeli cities threatening Sharon's life. Other Cabinet ministers have been harassed and heckled by right-wing Jewish militants, who see the withdrawal as both a surrender to terror and a violation of the Biblical command to settle the Land of Israel. But Sharon says he’s not worried. “In my entire life, I have never surrendered to threats, and I have no intention of starting now,” he said. Officials in Israel’s Shin Bet security service have warned that Jewish extremists could try to assassinate Sharon or attack the mosques on the Temple Mount in a last-ditch attempt to stop the Gaza pullout.
