Shimon Peres collapses at Tel Aviv event

Israeli President Shimon Peres collapsed during an event in Tel Aviv on Saturday and was rushed to a local hospital.

Peres briefly lost consciousness, but almost immediately recovered. Though doctors said he looked well when he arrived at the Sheba Medical Center, the president was nevertheless admitted for a series of tests.

A doctor later told local media that Peres was doing great, and that such episodes are not uncommon for people with extraordinary workloads. That Peres is 86-years-old also doesn't help.

Peres was expected to attend a scheduled meeting with visiting US envoy George Mitchell on Sunday.
