Corruption case against Sharon is dropped

Thursday, February 17, 2005 |

Israel's attorney general has dropped a corruption case against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, citing a lack of evidence. The decision caps after a three-year probe into allegations that Sharon received illegal campaign contributions. But while Sharon is off the hook, his son and close adviser, Omri, a parliamentarian, was indicted on charges of illegal campaign funding. The prime minister has been dogged by corruption scandals since taking office, but now all the cases against him have been closed.
