Israel's top basketball team beaten by NY Knicks

Maccabi Tel Aviv, Israel's top basketball team and five-time winner of the European Champions' Cup, was handily defeated in an exhibition game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

Despite lacking the depth of the NBA team, Maccabi managed to hang with the Americans for most of the game, ultimately losing by less than 20 points, with a final score of 106-91.

The game featured some drama when Israeli coach Pini Gershon was ejected for arguing with the referee, but refused to leave the floor. Only ten minutes later, and following the mediation of a rabbi who happened to be sitting on the front row, did Gershon agree to calmly vacate the premises.

It was the second year Maccabi has played a friendly against the Knicks. The Israelis lost the first matchup in 2007 by a margin of 112-85.
