A Sudanese Muslim man tried to hijack an EgyptAir flight from Istanbul to Cairo on Wednesday and divert it to Jerusalem.

The man used a knife from an in-flight meal to threaten flight crew and demand that they land the plane in Israel. He was quickly overpowered by undercover security guards on the flight.

The would-be hijacker later told interrogators that he wanted to "liberate Jerusalem" from the Zionists.
