An Abu Dhabi billionaire wants to buy the 21 Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip for $56 million. Under Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s plan, the settlements will be evacuated this summer. Israeli Cabinet Minister Ephraim Sneh, who initiated the deal, says the potential buyer “is ready, out of solidarity with the Palestinian people, to embark on a huge endeavor of construction and development in the Gaza Strip.” However, the government has not endorsed the deal. As of now, Israel plans to demolish the settlements to prevent the spectacle of Palestinians celebrating victory in abandoned Jewish communities.
