Jerusalem clashes leave 4 wounded

Friday, October 30, 2009 |  Israel Today Staff

Four people were wounded on Friday when Jews and Arabs violently clashed over ownership of a house in the southern Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Tzafafa.

Four of the Jews involved in the incident were later arrested on suspicion of opening fire on several of the Arabs.

Right-wing lawmaker Michael Ben-Ari said the police are indirectly responsible for the violence, and should also be held accountable. Ben-Ari noted that a court had already determined that the Arabs had illegally taken over the house from its Jewish owners. However, police failed to carry out the eviction order.

Beit Tzafafa is a small predominantly Arab neighborhood situated between the southern Jerusalem neighborhoods of Talpiot, Gilo and Malcha. It is typically devoid of racial tension.
