The Israel Tennis Center last week opened a new tennis center in the northern Galilee region that it hopes will act as a catalyst for coexistence and peace between the area's Druze, Christian Arab, Muslim Arab and Jewish residents.
The center is located in the Druze village of Sajur, which is surrounded by Christian and Muslim communities, and is just a few miles from several Jewish towns, including Karmiel.
The ITC CEO told The Jerusalem Post that sports have proven to be a successful way of breaking down barriers, and she hopes the new tennis center will do just that for the different ethnic groups that live in northern Israel and which of late have seen growing tensions between them.
