Israel releases 500 terrorists

Monday, February 21, 2005 |
Israel released 500 Palestinian prisoners today in a goodwill gesture aimed at strengthening the Mideast cease-fire. Another 400 prisoners will be freed in the next few months. But if there was goodwill on the Israeli side, there was much on the Palestinian side. The released terrorists flashed the victory sign, but grumbled about the release. “It’s not enough,” prisoner Hassan Sha’aban of the Islamic Jihad told Israel Radio. “There are 8,000 prisoners…The Palestinian people want them all to be freed.” The Palestinian leadership backs that demand, but Israel says terrorists with blood on their hands will remain in jail.
