Jerusalem suicide bombing thwarted

Thursday, December 10, 2009 |  Israel Today Staff

A young Palestinian man was arrested Wednesday as he attempted to enter Jerusalem with six pipe bombs in his possession. During subsequent questioning, police learned that the man intended to carry out a suicide bomb attack in the city's downtown district.

At the height of the latest Palestinian terrorist uprising from 2001-2003, suicide bomb attacks in Jerusalem were almost a weekly occurrence.

In related news, a Palestinian Arab entered the Samarian Jewish community of Revava on Wednesday and began trying to stab local residents with a large commando knife. Two local residents were able to wrestle the assailant to the ground and hold him until Israeli soldiers arrived. There were no injuries in the attempted attack.
