Soldier killed in Beersheba mall shooting

Sunday, December 27, 2009 |  Israel Today Staff

An Israeli soldier was shot and killed by another soldier as the two argued in the main shopping mall in the southern city of Beersheba on Sunday.

The shooting took place in front of hundreds of shocked and terrified shoppers.

It was later revealed that both soldiers were Beduin Arabs from the Israeli army's tracker unit.

Police forces arrived in the soldiers' hometown of Rahat en masse to prevent the family of the victim from carrying out an honor killing against the perpetrator's family. Beduin families and clans are often bitterly opposed to one another.
