Police brace for Gaza evacuation

Tuesday, February 22, 2005 |
The police plan to put nearly all their manpower into dealing with the Gaza pullout. Some 18,000 police will be assigned to the task: 2,500 unarmed officers will evacuate the settlers, 4,000 will guard the entrances to Gaza, and the rest will deal with demonstrations around the country. Since Gaza will be sealed off, the settlers will try to cause disruptions inside Israel to divert police manpower from the evacuation.
