Palestinian parliament rejects new cabinet

Tuesday, February 22, 2005 |

Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia has been forced to reshuffle his cabinet after parliament rejected his original lineup. Lawmakers were furious that the cabinet was stacked with the so-called old guard--cronies of the late Yasser Arafat who are seen as corrupt. Since the death of Arafat, the Palestinian parliament has been pushing for reform; and Qureia, who was faced with a possible no-confidence vote, gave in. The parliament will vote on the new cabinet tomorrow.
