Israel beefs up security at the Temple Mount

Wednesday, February 23, 2005 |

Israeli police have asked the government for $14 million to beef up security at the Temple Mount. The move follows intelligence information that Jewish militants could try to attack the Mosque of Al Aksa, the third holiest place in Islam, in a last ditch attempt to thwart the Gaza pullout. The police want to add 187 more officers to protect the site because any attack there would fire up the Moslem world against Israel.
