Settlers consider moving to kibbutzim

Thursday, February 24, 2005 |

Some of the 9,000 Jewish settlers in Judea, Samaria and Gaza who are slated for evacuation from their homes this summer want to recreate a communal lifestyle on the kibbutz collective farms. It's a strange marriage because the settlers are hawks while kibbutz members are doves. But the kibbutzim like the idea because they're in financial straits, and the settlers will bring compensation money from the government. It's rare in Israel these days, but political opposites are finding some common ground.
