Tourism to Israel booming again

Thursday, March 11, 2010 |  Israel Today Staff

Tourism is booming again in Israel. According to numbers released by the Central Bureau of Statistics, Israel welcomed more visitors in February of this year than in any other month in its modern history.

Some 222,000 visitors came to Israel last month, an increase of 46 percent over the same month last year. Most of those visitors stayed for at least one night, while some arrived aboard cruise ships sailing the Mediterranean and were in the country for only one day.

The resurgence has prompted a lot of new hotel construction, something that came to a halt nearly 10 years ago with the start of the last Palestinian "intifada" and the resulting steep decline in tourism.
