New Palestinian Cabinet sworn in

Saturday, February 26, 2005 |
The Palestinian parliament has sworn in a progressive new cabinet that is expected to promote reforms demanded by the U.S. and Israel. The 24-member cabinet is composed of 17 newcomers, unassociated with the regime of the late Yasser Arafat that was widely seen as corrupt. Israeli officials say it's a good sign. “What we would like to see is a totally new policy...to move toward peace and quiet with Israel,” said Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom. Parliament was loyal to Arafat because he was the symbol of the Palestinian cause, but now that that he's gone, it’s changing direction.
