Israel threatens Syria

Sunday, February 27, 2005 |

Israel is considering an attack on targets in Syria, after the Damascus-based leadership of the Islamic Jihad group claimed responsibility for the Tel Aviv bombing. "There is no doubt that Syria is a center of terrorist activity, this time against Israel, but also regionally," Deputy Defense Minister Ze’ev Boim told Israel Radio. "Operations by us against Syria are certainly possible. We have done it the past. If [Syrian President Bashar] Assad needs another message from us, then he will certainly get it." Syria is also under US pressure to close the offices of Palestinian terror groups in Damascus. Syria responded that it supports the peace process, and it said the Tel Aviv bombing contradicts Syrian policy.
