Terrorist rockets land in Eilat

Thursday, April 22, 2010 |  Israel Today Staff

Two rockets fired by unidentified terrorists landed in the southern Israel Red Sea resort of Eilat early Thursday morning.

One of the rockets landed in the waters just off the Eilat beach, while the other landed on the eastern edge of town, not far from the neighboring Jordanian town of Aqaba.

There were no injuries or damage reported in the attack.

It was originally believed that the rockets were launched from Jordan, and Jordanian security forces cooperated with Israel in investigating the incident. It was later revealed that the rockets were fired from the Sinai Peninsula.

The Egyptian-controlled Sinai has been the location of increasing Al Qaeda, Hamas and Hizballah activity in recent years. A previously-unknown group with ties to Al Qaeda reportedly claimed credit for Thursday's attack.
