Palestinian leader eulogizes terrorist mastermind

"Moderate" Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday delivered a touching eulogy for his friend and longtime comrade Abu Daoud, the man who masterminded the 1972 terrorist attack on the Olympic Games in Munich during which 11 captured Israeli athletes were executed.

Daoud died on Friday in Damascus at the age of 73. He was one of the original top commanders of Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement, which Abbas today heads.

Of his old friend, Abbas said:

"He is missed. He was one of the leading figures of Fatah and spent his life in resistance and sincere work as well as physical sacrifice for his people's just causes."

Abbas' eulogy came despite repeated claims to Western officials and even last month to American Jewish leaders that his regime is devoid of incitement against Israeli Jews and in no way encourages young Palestinians to engage in a life of terrorism.
