Israeli military helicopter crashes in Romania

Tuesday, July 27, 2010 |  Israel Today Staff

Six Israeli and one Romanian soldier were believed to have been killed when an Israel Air Force transport helicopter crashed in Romania late Monday night.

Rescue efforts were severely hampered by adverse weather conditions and harsh terrain. The crash was one of Israel's worst military aviation accidents in recent years.

The Israeli aircraft was in Romania as part of a joint training exercise. Israeli defense officials said Israeli troops regularly train abroad to prepare them for future conflicts in terrain they are not normally accustomed to.
