Arab stone throwers lightly wounded an eight-year-old Israeli boy in the religious Jewish neighborhood of Shimon Hatzadik on the eastern side of Jerusalem on Sunday.
Residents of Shimon Hatzadik, which is surrounded by Arab neighborhoods, told Israel National News that random attacks on local Jews had escalated over the past month due to the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
The local Jewish residents said police have failed to adequately deal with the threat to themselves and their children because of intense pressure being applied on the government by radical left-wing movements opposed to Jews living in "Arab" areas.
The police reportedly fear that arresting and punishing the violent Arab stone throwers would lead to a disastrous confrontation not only with the rest of the Arab population there, but with thousands of left-wing activists.
In other violence, Palestinian terrorists operating out of the Gaza Strip fired two rockets into southern Israel on Monday morning. Both rockets landed in open areas and did not cause any injuries or damage.
On Sunday, Israeli troops intercepted and killed three Palestinian terrorists attempting to infiltrate southern Israel from Gaza.
