Tulkarem pullout expected

Tuesday, March 08, 2005 |

Israeli defense minister Shaul Mofaz will meet today with Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas, and they’re expected to announce an Israeli pullout from the town of Tulkarem in Samaria. Some 2,500 Palestinian police will deploy in the town with a pledge to prevent terrorist attacks against Israelis. Israeli army chief of staff Lieutenant-General Moshe Ya'alon said it’s up to the Palestinians to end gang rule and restore law and order. Tulkarem is a test case--if it's quiet there, Israel will withdraw from four more towns in Judea and Samaria.
