A group of American military veterans were brought to Israel last month as part of the Wounded Warriors Project to spend some time with Israeli counterparts.
The American and Israeli war veterans spent days cycling through Israel together, sharing combat stories and getting to know each other and their nations’ respective situations.
One of the Americans told an Israeli army reporter that “back in the States, when we see Israel on the news, for example, it seems like a terror stricken country filled with war. But when we arrived here, we stood in front of a beautiful country.”
The Israel trip was actually the expansion of a joint initiative between the Wounded Warriors Project and Friends of the Israel Defense Forces that has been brining Israeli war veterans to the US to participate in scenic bike tours with American veterans for the past four years.
One of the Americans, a Sgt. Juan Arredondo, summed up the his feelings about the trip and the strong bond between Israel and the US by stating, “We are both fighting for each other.”
