UN needs machine guns to protect Gaza staff

Monday, November 08, 2010 |  Ryan Jones

Israel has approved a request by the director of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip to arm his personal bodyguard with submachine guns.

Despite the fact that UNRWA works tirelessly to provide for the residents of Gaza (though there is evidence most of the aid is stolen and resold by Hamas), director John Ging has been repeatedly targeted for assassination.

To help keep him alive, Ging’s four guards will now carry German-made Heckler and Koch machine guns in addition to their customary pistols. The move makes Gaza the only place in the world besides Somalia where the UN must use machine guns to protect its personnel.

[Ed. Note - We could again point out how the reality contradicts the assertions of UNRWA and other critics that Israel is the problem in the Middle East, but it is becoming quite obvious at this point.]
