Tensions between Muslims and Christians continue to escalate in Egypt, though the world seems too preoccupied with the building of a few Jewish homes to take any notice.
In the southern mixed Christian-Muslim town of Abu Tesht on Monday, a Muslim mob burned down a number of homes belonging to Egyptian Coptic Christians. The reason: a local Christian man had allegedly become romantically involved with a Muslim woman.
The rumors of the love affair were started after the man and woman in question were seen walking together through town. Both were arrested for questioning.
Last month, we reported on the significant rise in the Muslim threat to Egypt’s 10 million Christians. Fueled by unsubstantiated accusations, such as Coptic Christians receiving weapons from Israel for an assault on their Islamic countrymen, Muslim anger is teetering on open violence, and in some areas such as Abu Tesht has already reached the tipping point.
