Israeli soldier wounded in Gaza shootout

Sunday, December 12, 2010 |  Ryan Jones

An Israeli soldier was moderately wounded in a shootout with Palestinian terrorists along the Gaza security fence early Sunday morning.

Israeli troops spotted two terrorists trying to infiltrate southern Israel just north of the Kissufim Border Crossing in central Gaza and opened fire.

Both of the terrorists were killed, but the Israelis came under heavy fire when they went to scout out the area around the infiltration point. Apparently, the two infiltrators had been preparing the way for a larger terrorist cell to enter southern Israel.

Over the past 10 days, Palestinian terrorists operating out of the Gaza Strip have fired more than a dozen rockets and mortar shells at communities in southern Israel. The latest attack came on Saturday night, when a short-range Kassam missile struck a community in the area. There were no injuries or damage reported.
