Terrorists challenge Abbas in show of force

Friday, March 11, 2005 |
Palestinian gunmen from the Al Aksa Martyrs Brigade stormed into a meeting of the ruling Fatah movement in Ramallah, firing in the air, throwing chairs and sending participants running for cover. The terrorists, who are a part of Fatah, shouted that they were being ignored by their leaders. It was a serious challenge to Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, also from Fatah, and underscores how hard it will be for him to wrest control of the streets from terrorist gangs. The young generation of Fatah, which has been on the front lines of the war against Israel, charges that it’s been cut out of a decision making role by the old guard, led by Abbas.
