PA fails to stop Arabs from working for Jews

Try as they may, the Palestinian leadership just can’t convince the local Arab population to stop working for and with Israeli Jews. Even the threat of jail time hasn’t been enough to prevent an increase in this “traitorous collaboration.”

Numbers published by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics revealed that today 11 out of every 100 Palestinian Arab laborers work either in Israel proper or the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. In 2009, 10 out of every 100 Palestinian laborers worked for Israelis.

The increase in Palestinians working for Israelis has corresponded directly to a significant boost in the Palestinian GDP per capita. Even minimum wage jobs for Israelis pay much more than the average Palestinian can make working in PA-controlled areas.

Of course, those developments don’t help the “Palestinian cause,” which aims to convince the world that Israel oppresses the Palestinians and purposely keeps them living in squalor. The reality is that Israel provides the only real financial opportunity for most average Palestinians, while their own leaders desire to keep them living in squalor in order to smear Israel.

To that end, “moderate” Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, that darling of the Western world, passed a law last year prohibiting Palestinian Arabs from working in or buying goods from the Jewish communities of Judea and Samaria (the so-called “Jewish settlement”). Those caught violating the ban can face serious jail time.
