Israel trusts Gaza Christians over Muslims

Wednesday, March 09, 2011 |  Ryan Jones

An Israeli NGO on Tuesday charged the government with discriminating between the residents of the Gaza Strip by being overtly trusting of local Christians, while at the same time automatically viewing all Muslims with suspicion.

The Gisha Law Center for Freedom of Movement noted that Gaza Christians regularly and relatively effortlessly receive permits to enter Israel to pray at Christian holy sites during relevant holy days. Meanwhile, there is a near blanket ban on Muslims from Gaza entering Israel for religious purposes.

Gisha activists insisted that Israel is infringing on the religious freedoms of Muslim Gazans.

The petition ignored the fact that almost all terrorist attacks against Israelis over the past decade have been perpetrated by Muslims, while Christians have been involved in very few assaults on Israeli Jews. On top of that, the Muslims of Gaza have been increasingly radicalized since the Islamist terror group Hamas seized control of the territory in 2007.
