Why Israel is happy with Pope Benedict's new book

Israel and the Catholic Church have experienced some rough patches in their relationship over the past few years, but Pope Benedict’s new book Jesus of Nazareth, Part Two has gone a long way toward restoring the amicable feelings engendered by his predecessor, John Paul II.

Ariel Ben Ami, founder and director of Catholics for Israel, told Israel Today that while Benedict was not necessarily saying anything new, the scholarly way in which he approached the subject is significant.

That significance and the potential for the book to draw more Christians into a correct understanding of the Jews’ place in God’s plan of redemption was not lost on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
