World leaders in the field of "green" technology on Tuesday praised Israel as the world's foremost "laboratory" for eco-innovation.

The accolades were shared during a special gathering of the United Nations Economics Commission in Tel Aviv.

Meeting under the banner of "Promoting Eco-Innovation: Policies and Opportunities," the UN officials and environmental experts from around the world were discussing means of better coordinating the advancement of environmentally friendly technology on a global scale.

One thing they all agreed on is that Israel is definitely the place were their theories can and should be tested and developed.

"“Israel is a laboratory of innovative policies and practices in many areas, including technologies, financing and project management," said Jan Kubis, executive secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe.

Kubis expressed his hopes that Israel would be increasingly seen as not only a laboratory in which to test new green technology, but as a training field for new experts from around the world.

For decades already Israel has set itself apart as a leader in numerous environmental fields, especially agriculture. The need to constantly adapt to changing regional situations have made Israelis expert innovators.
