If you are a woman and like the challenge of expeditions in
wild faraway places, off the beaten track, then the “Desert
Queen” experience (Hebrew: Malkat HaMidbar) is for you. Anyway,
that’s what I decided when I heard that this year’s journey
was to China, to visit the matriarchal tribal clans of the Nakhi
people in the Himalayan foothills in Yunnan Province in the
southwestern part of the country.
Desert Queen is exclusively
for women from different countries who join with Israeli women
to travel to such exotic locales as Thailand, India, South Africa,
the Balkans—each trip under rugged off-road conditions using
4x4 all-terrain vehicles driven by the women themselves.
