Judaism is filled with counting days, remembering certain events through Biblical holidays, and celebrating life. "Life" is appreciated everyday in Jewish culture and all of life is respected, whether it is for a human, an animal or even plant life.
A special day is observed each year to recognize the day that trees begin their new cycle. Since the majority of Jews live in the Northern Hemisphere, the date has been set for Tu B'shvat (the 15th of the month Shvat, according to the Hebrew calendar) which usually falls in February. On this special day trees are usually planted in Israel.
