Intel Israel Ltd. brings in about 40 percent of Intel Corporation's global revenue, the general manager of Intel Israel revealed on Sunday at an annual press conference.
Speaking at the company's headquarters in the southern town of Kiryat Gat, Maxine Fassberg said that Intel Israel's exports totaled $2.2 billion in 2011. And the company has been giving back to Israel in a big way. Intel Israel has invested $9.4 billion in local companies, infrastructure, etc, and it is estimated that it has contributed at least $4 billion to the Israel economy.
Intel Israel, which employs 7,800 people locally, has long been hailed as the heart of Intel's industry-leading research and development. The current consumer computer chip distributed by Intel, dubbed Ivy Bridge, was developed in Israel using techniques and specialized machinery that were also developed in Israel.
The company plans to hire an additional 600 people in the coming year and conduct a major upgrade of its main Israel production center.
