Life in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip
fluctuates between poverty and wealth.
On the one hand the people are being
abused by the manipulation of oil prices, and
on the other the tunnel business has become
a Palestinian “startup.” Nowadays real estate
deals are under the control of the new tunnel
millionaires. For one person the Strip is hell;
for another it is a place of unlimited possibilities.
For the poorer sectors of society, their problems are conveniently blamed on Israel, both for local and international consumption. And few dare to speak out regarding the truth of their situation.
“You have no idea how afraid we are
of Hamas,” a Gazan man from
Khan Younis told Israel Today. ”Anyone who dares raise
his voice is immediately silenced."
