A Palestinian terrorist operating out of the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip on Thursday opened fire on an Israeli farmer working his lands in the adjacent Negev region of southern Israel.
The farmer, who was operating a tractor at the time, reportedly hid behind the vehicle until Israeli soldiers could rescue him. In the meantime, the terrorist sniper continued to fire, causing damage to the tractor.
Regional officials said that such incidents are a daily occurrence, though few are reported by the media unless there are casualties.
Residents living within gun and rocket range from Gaza have been increasingly calling for the Israeli government to authorize another military invasion of Gaza in order to put an end to the daily threat to their lives and livelihood.
Fearing international backlash, Israel has traditionally responded to such threats with overwhelming force only after significant Israeli casualties has occurred.
