Egyptian ambassador returns after four-year hiatus

Thursday, March 17, 2005 |

Egypt has returned its ambassador to Tel Aviv for the first time in four and a half years. The ambassador was withdrawn at the start of the Palestinian terror war, in protest over Israeli military actions in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip. But ties between Israel and Egypt have been warming since the death of Yasser Arafat and the declaration of the Mideast cease-fire last month. Jordan also withdrew its ambassador at the same time, but he returned a month ago.
