Last week, a 24-year-old Lebanese holding a Swedish passport was arrested on Cyprus. He was under suspicion of terrorist activities. The Cyprian police received some warning from an intelligence service abroad and arrested the man in his hotel room.
He was in possession of photographs and documents which kept track of Israelis living on the island. Cyprian radio broadcasting stations assumed that the terrorist planned to blow up an Israeli airplane or bus.
A spokesman of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed Iran for being involved in the terrorist plans.
Cyprus is a popular travel destination with Israelis, since it is relatively close-by and the governments of both countries are in a good relationship. Since Turkey is no longer a holiday option for Israelis due to the hostile attitude against the Jewish state, tourism to Cyprus has even increased.
