Israel's rescue services on Sunday conducted a nationwide earthquake drill simulating a massive tremor that resulted in over 7,000 casualties.
The exercise included the Home Front Command temporarily taking over Israel's TV and radio broadcasts and sending out emergency text messages to citizens' cellphones.
Israel sits on one of the largest fault lines in the world, the Syrian-African Rift, and experts say the region is due a massive earthquake.
Experts also fear Israel would not fare too well if such an earthquake hits. The old construction in the country, and there is a lot of older construction, will likely offer little resistance and crumble with little or no warning.
Israelis were told that as soon as an earthquake begins, they should do their best to get outside. If that is not possible, a bomb shelter is the next best option.
